    Do you cut lawns?

    As a lawn treatment company we do not cut lawns, we leave that to you the homeowner, but we will happily advise on mowing techniques to ensure you get the best cut.

    Can I just have one treatment?

    You can book a one off mechanical treatment if you wish however in order to get the best out of your lawn we recommend our year round treatment programme as a minimum to ensure it receives the nutrients, weed and moss control it deserves.

    My lawn is beyond help – is it even worth contacting you?

    You will be surprised what a difference we can make, as far as we are concerned no lawn is beyond help – every lawn can be improved no matter how dire its condition. Our flexible range of treatments will ensure we can make a difference. For those lawns that are in a terrible condition it may be necessary to carry out our lawn renovation programme – your lawn treatment expert will examine the lawn and provide you with a course of treatment suitable for your individual lawn.

    Do you lay turf?

    We do not lay turf. However, we do offer a renovation programme. If you are considering re-turfing your lawn due to its condition this could be a much more cost effective option.

    Can’t I just do the treatments myself with products bought from the garden centre?

    There are a large variety of lawn treatment products available from DIY stores and garden centres however they will not match the quality of our specialist products. All our lawn treatment experts are PA1 and PA6 qualified to allow them to work with the products we use. They are professional turf management products and with these you will get a professional result. In addition, you may be surprised that our treatment programme actually works out more cost effective with better results than doing it yourself.

    Do I have to be at home when you treat my lawn?

    There is no need to be at home when we come to treat your lawn. You will be notified in advance of the date that we will be visiting to carry out your treatment. If you are going to be out, we simply ask that you leave any gates or access unlocked to allow us entry to the lawn and ensure that pets are shut away from the lawn.

    Do I have to sign a contract?

    All of our services are completely contract free, we will never ask you to sign a contract and you are free to cancel the service at any time should you wish.

    What if I change my mind?

    Of course, we hate to see any customers leave! However, it is not a problem if you change your mind; you are not tied into a contract. You would simply need to contact us, pay for any treatments that you have already received and we would cancel your next visit.

    How do I pay for the lawn service?

    Following each treatment you will be issued an invoice which you can pay via cash, cheque or online banking. Alternatively you can opt to pay by Direct Debit whereby we spread the cost of your annual plan over 12 convenient monthly payments that come straight from your bank account.

    How long will it take before I notice a difference in my lawn?

    You should begin to notice a difference with 12 – 16 days of your first treatment. Of course some treatments such as scarification will show immediate results. Your lawn will then improve over the course of your treatments.

    My lawn was looking great and now it doesn’t look as good – what has happened?

    It must be remembered that when working with nature there are a lot of variables to take into account. It is not an exact science and changes in the weather conditions can affect lawns. Likewise, insect or disease infestations can also cause havoc on lawns. However, rest assured that your Greensleeves lawn treatment expert will be assessing your lawn at each visit and looking out for early signs of any lawn stress to act as quickly as possible to rectify it.

    What should I do if I notice a problem following one of your visits?

    The products we use are completely safe an our lawn technicians are fully trained but if you feel that there is a problem the sooner you let us know the sooner we can arrange to take a look and if necessary take the appropriate action

    Do you offer any incentives if I recommend you to my friends?

    We are extremely proud of the quality of service we offer and we actively encourage our customers to recommend us to their friends. As a thank you for your recommendation we credit your account with £5 for every person you recommend that becomes a Greensleeves customer. You can easily make recommendations using our online form.

    How will I know when you are intending to visit?

    The date of your first visit will be arranged upon placing your booking. Following this visit you will receive an invoice which will notify you of the next treatment date.

    I have lost the date of my next treatment – how can I find out when it is?

    Treatment dates will be listed on your latest invoice. Do not worry if you can’t find this – simply contact your local lawn treatment expert either via email or telephone with your Customer reference number to hand and they will be able to inform you. Their details can be found on the top of your invoice or on our website.

    I have the date of your next visit but it is not convenient – can I change it?

    We do our best to accommodate our customers’ requirements and understand that on occasion treatment dates may need to be changed. Please contact your local lawn treatment expert if you need to rearrange your treatment date. Their details can be found on the top of your invoice or on our website.

    Will you still treat my lawn in bad weather?

    Whilst we are able to work in most conditions there will be occasions where it is just not possible to carry out a successful treatment, for example in extreme wind or snow. If this is the case you will be notified and an alternative treatment date will be arranged.

    How soon after a treatment can I use my lawn?

    The lawn can be used as soon as 1 hour after application; this includes use by children and pets.

    Are my children and pets safe to use the lawn following the treatment?

    It is completely safe for children and pets to go on the lawn after our treatment has been applied however anything that eats the grass, such as rabbits or guinea pigs, should be kept off the lawn for at least 10 days.

    Do I need to water my lawn straight after a treatment?

    No, this is not necessary. The fertilisers we use are perfectly safe and will not need to be watered in. The only treatment that requires watering is overseeding where it is necessary to encourage the growth of the new grass seed. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t water; you should always keep your lawn hydrated, particularly when it’s hot or dry.

    Can I cut my grass after a treatment?

    Please do not mow the lawn for 3 days before or after a seasonal treatment.

    Can I still use my grass clippings as mulch?

    Do not use the clippings from the next 4 mowing’s as mulch unless composted for at least 6 months.

    Do I need to do anything after a moss treatment?

    Following an application of our moss treatment, moss may “brown-off” and will benefit from being removed from the lawn. This should be done either by raking or scarification.

    Do I need to do anything following an aeration or scarification treatment?

    Although it is not necessary, mowing the grass immediately will help to remove any debris left behind. You can use your lawn immediately following a scarification or aeration.

    How can I ensure I get the best from my lawn treatment service?

    To get the best out of our service your lawn should be mowed as frequently as possible. Mowers should be well maintained and the blade kept sharp at all times. This will help to reduce the impact of some lawn diseases.

    How short should I cut my lawn?

    To retain a healthy, green appearance your lawn should not be mowed less than 25mm in height. During warm, dry periods you should increase the height of cut to retain moisture and a green appearance.

    Should I still mow my lawn during winter?

    During winter it is important to continue to mow your lawn to prevent the grass getting too long – this will help to reduce any moss build up.

    What should I do with leaves that fall on my lawn?

    Regularly remove leaves during autumn and winter to prevent disease and moss infestations.

    How can I keep my lawn hydrated during hot, dry periods?

    If you wish to keep your lawn green during drought it may be necessary to apply water. This is best done in the early morning or last thing in the evening using a sprinkler.

    How can I control Thatch and Compaction in my lawn?

    It is important to control the thatch in your lawn, this should be done by regular Scarification. To control compaction lawns benefit from regular Hollow Tine Aeration. This will depend on your lawn and soil type.

    What do you use on lawns?

    Our specialist products are unique to us and will give you professional results. Our fertiliser will feed your lawn for up to 10 weeks.

    What is thatch?

    Thatch is a naturally occurring layer within your lawn comprising of dead and live grass, leaves, root stems and moss which is present between the base of the grass stems and the soil bed below. A small amount of thatch in a lawn is considered healthy as it aids its resilience. However, it is easy for this layer to become too thick and affect the health of the lawn. Your lawn treatment expert will take a core sample from your lawn and will be able to show you the layer of thatch present within the lawn. If it is deemed to be too thick s/he will discuss a course of action with you.

    What is compaction?

    Over time most soils will become compacted, squashing the particles together and reducing the grass’s ability to grow well. This compaction will itself cause a number of problems, it will increase the likelihood of the lawn becoming flooded or water logged. Compacted soils are much more likely to become invested with either weeds such as daisies or moss. The roots are unable to access the nutrient they require so the grass tends to be thin weak and pale in compacted soils.

    Do you tidy up after yourselves?

    We are one of the few lawn companies that will remove all debris from the lawn following a scarification or aeration treatment. This is important not only for the appearance of the lawn and the convenience of you, the customer, but also to ensure that any disease that has been extracted in waste is removed and not left to spread to the rest of the lawn.
