Welcome to the website for the South Sheffield and Chesterfield branch of Greensleeves. We are a locally based, family run business with a passion for creating lush green lawns for our customers. Excellent customer service is at the forefront of everything we do and we are committed to delivering the very best products and service that we possibly can.

Originally we were Greensleeves customers so we were already sold on the company and the products and when we were looking for a new business opportunity it was a pretty easy decision.

Currently there are 3 of us in the business, Joe and his parents Debbie and Bob. 

Joe — He was the original team member, having started this franchise back in 2017. Joe had a background in IT until he decided to retrain and invest his future in this Greensleeves franchise and he hasn’t looked back since.

Debbie — Debbie joined the team full time 4 years ago, having worked part time before that, and she is primarily responsible for managing all the office functions. Debbie left her role as a Civil Servant and has become the person we rely on to crack the whip behind the scenes and keep us all organised. She does get her “hands dirty” from time to time too, so as well as chatting to her on the phone, you are also likely to see her in person helping out on lawns, especially during our busy Spring and Autumn scarifying seasons. 

Bob —Bob joined the team full time from Spring 2021. Bob was involved in the background of the franchise for a number of years but as we continued to grow, he decided to leave his role as an IT Project Manager, swap his laptop for a knapsack, and join the team full time.

Our customers are the heart and soul of our business and they are at the centre of everything we do. By far the most rewarding part of the job is turning someone’s problem patch of weeds and moss into a lush green lawn for them to enjoy. We do it time and time again and we never get tired of it.

We don’t stop at lawns though. We are also able to treat your driveways, paths and patios too. Whether your problem is weeds or moss, we have the tools and expertise to tackle both. Our treatments improve the appearance of your driveways, paths and patios and make them much less slippery to walk on.

How long have you been with Greensleeves?

Five years.

Tell us a little bit about what you do…

I run the office. Daily tasks include answering calls, sending reminders, daily accounts, etc. I’m also involved with planning for the seasons, in addition to assisting on the gardens as and when required.

What’s the most unusual obstacle you’ve had to overcome

I can’t think of an unusual garden, but can think of the most memorable garden. This was the very first large garden we scarified. It hadn’t been scarified for years and was very thatchy. We weren’t really prepared for the amount of thatch that came out and didn’t really have the right tools. We picked up thatch with our hands and filled 50 bags. It didn’t take us long to invest in some decent leaf grabbers!

Are you a dog or a cat person? (Or anything else!)

Definitely a dog person. We have a crazy cocker spaniel.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Getting the opportunity to grow a business from scratch and the freedom that gives.

Why did you choose to specialise in lawns?

We have an interest in gardening and love being outdoors – this combines the two!

Which is your favourite season to work in?

Autumn. It is very busy with scarifying, but the weather is usually great for us to complete the work.

What do you like to listen to in your van?

80s and Indie.

Which is your favourite service station?

We don’t really use them for work, but any that I use when going on holiday will always be my favourite!

What’s your favourite post-work snack or lunch item?

If we have a day of scarifying, we always have chocolate in the van as a treat.

Are you a tea or coffee person? Or something else entirely?

Coffee – a good flat white.
