Greensleeves North Leeds

Hello, and welcome to Greensleeves North Leeds. This franchise is owned and operated by experienced lawncare expert James Crossman.

We provide a no contract lawn treatment plan designed around the specific needs of your lawn, and its changing seasonal requirements.

A yearly plan of treatments ensures your lawn receives premium-grade professional products only available to our fully certified staff. This ensures you have the lush, green, and healthy lawn you have always wanted without the time, expense, and hassle of buying products that are often difficult to apply without damaging your lawn.

Seasonal Treatments

Spring – Our spring feed is designed to lift the lawn out of winter and provide a deep green colour.

Early Summer – Our first summer treatment will give your lawn the thick, lush look we all know and love.

Late Summer – We apply fertiliser to strengthen your lawn, even through a hot dry period.

Autumn – Our specialist autumn feed ensures your grass stays healthy and prevents moss & weeds.

Winter – As the months become colder, we will protect your lawn against moss & fungal diseases.

Annual Essential Treatments

Lawn Scarification – This is a process perhaps best described as a mechanical raking of the lawn; its primary purpose is to remove thatch and moss from the lawn, although it has other associated benefits as well.

Overseeding – Introducing healthy new grass to the lawn to improve the appearance.

Lawn Aeration – This is the process of taking small plugs from the lawn, which is the best way of easing compaction and sub-surface thatch, allowing air, water and fertiliser to penetrate to the root zone.

Specialist Treatments

Lawn Renovation – Don’t despair if you think your lawn is beyond repair, it probably isn’t! We specialise in lawn renovation and our 5 step renovation process can work out at a fraction of the price of re-turfing.

Spiking & Hydration –  Conditioning your lawn to aid with the retention of water and reduce the need for watering.

Insect/Pest Control – Control of Chafer Grubs and Leather Jackets.

Fungicide –  Control of fungal infections that appear on the lawn.

Hard Surface Weed Control

Hard Surface Cleaner – We offer a biological and mechanical method of cleaning.

Any waste produced we take away, including scarifying and aeration. Debris is recycled and ends up helping fertilise farmland in Bramham.

We pride ourselves on the quality of the lawn care service we provide and are passionate about lawns; we will not cut corners and promise to provide your lawn with the care and attention it deserves.

Q&A with James Crossman of Greensleeves North Leeds.

How long have you been with Greensleeves?

“8 years.”

Tell us a little bit about what you do…

“Provide the 5 seasonal visits roughly every 10 weeks. On each visit have a chat with the customers about the lawn and general things. Whilst we are on the lawn we look for issues on the lawn the customer might not be aware of and offer simple solutions such as water the lawn. Or a specialised treatment such as Fungicide or insecticide”

Who else is on your team?

“We have Sarah In the office keeping control of the admin, although Sarah did start out on the lawns providing the same services as the rest of the lawn team, the only thing that would slow her down on a lawn was drinking coffee and rescuing bees!

Ian is our customer-focused and technical lawn man, if he does not know the answer he will investigate and come back with an answer and solution. Expect to see him busy providing quotes and stepping in for Sarah when she goes off on her hols. When Ian is not on the lawns you might catch him and his band performing on stage in the evenings.

Chris is our longest serving team member, starting as just a temporary member, that was too shy to chat to the customers he has since learnt to drive, became a full-time member will not shut up chatting to customers and offering helpful advice or his views on his rugby team Castleford Tigers. You will often see Chris training the new team members.

Matt will share helpful tips with the customers, although one of the youngest team members, Matt is a proud father who enjoys his weekends with his son. Mathew loves to crack on with the scarifying and is practically minded so is great for fixing the equipment when it breaks down.

Which areas do you cover?

Bardsey, Shadwell, Harewood, East Keswick, East Righton, Wike, Moortown, Scarcroft, Thorner, Sandhills, Whinmoor, Bramhope, Adel, Weetwood, Horsforth, Yeadon, Rawdon, Guiseley, Hawsworth, Otley, Pool in Wharfdale, Arthington, Braythorn, Blubberhouses, Ilkley, Addingham, Denton.

What’s the most unusual obstacle you’ve had to overcome i.e. steepest/biggest/roughest?

One customer has a house that is up a very steep drive, you can only see the sky as you drive up it. When it comes to that route, we put names in a hat to see how has to tackle the hill. We have had a van slide backwards down the hill whilst trying to drive up it.

Are you a dog or a cat person? (Or anything else)

“Dog: Lhasa Apso”

What’s the best thing about your job?

Seeing wonderful gardens, meeting interesting people and the fresh air. The transformation we see from lawn renovations is always amazing and never fails to impress me.

Why did you choose to specialise in lawns?

“I have always had a keen interest in gardening, that said I now leave the flower beds to my wife whilst I concentrate on the lawn. Having a great lawn sets off the garden and creates a tranquil space to relax and gather your thoughts.”

Which season do you most prefer to work during?

“I love the spring, the crisp frosty morning but yet the sun is shining, a brisk 10-mile stroll across the lawns and the transformation that you see in the lawn after the spring treatment is always a joy to see. And nature seems to be at its busiest, new shoots competing to get to the sunlight.”

What do you like to listen to in your van?

“I tend to flick between Greatest hits radio, Radio 1 and Capital Dance. Then for the long drive back to the office a bit of Radio 4 to keep me informed.”

What’s your favourite post-work snack or lunch item?

“2 Apples, 2 Bananas, 2 Ham sandwiches (with salad cream) no butter no marge, 1 Penguin, and 1 Twix.

Are you a tea or coffee person? Or something else entirely?!

“I love Tea but I can not commit to waiting for it to brew, so I stick to coffee.”

What are your social media channels?

“Facebook, Twitter”

If people would like to speak to you, what are the best ways to get in touch?

“Email or call the office. I aim to get back to everyone the same day during the week, and by Monday if you call over the weekend.”

Is there anything else which you’d like to mention?

“We love the challenge of transforming a previously abandoned lawn to a lush green space for the family to enjoy.”
