Greensleeves Lawn Care specialise in the treatment of lawns. Under the umbrella of the founder company, Andrew and Ruth Hodgskiss cover all of the CB and IP29 postcode areas.

Andrew has been in the grass seed and amenity industry all of his working life – dealing with golf clubs, local authorities and the general public. As a family-run business based in Newmarket, they can give a more personal service within the local area. Greensleeves Newmarket take great pride in bringing a lawn back to life, providing general TLC and enjoy the pleasure of ensuring satisfaction amongst customers.

In their first year of trading in 2008, Andrew and Ruth were delighted to be awarded the prestigious New Franchisee of the Year by David Truby, the Managing Director of Greensleeves Lawn Care.

Services and treatments

Greensleeves Lawn Care have fully trained staff , all National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) qualified and offer a customised service for each lawn with five seasonal treatments a year. This ensures that the right product is applied in the right quantity, at the right time and also often works out cheaper than DIY.

Additionally, all of the products used are professional products – unavailable to the DIY market. Greensleeves also specialise in scarification, aeration and overseeding where necessary. By the end of the annual treatments, the customer will have a lawn to rival any other. With cost-effective treatments, all the owner has to do is cut the grass regularly for a beautiful lawn.

Andrew and Ruth will be pleased to visit and examine your lawn, providing advice and free quotation without obligation. A green, weed-free and well-maintained lawn will be the envy of your friends and neighbours, also adding value to your property.

Pest control

We are seeing an increase in chafer grubs and leatherjackets. Left untreated, they systematically eat away at the roots of the grass, devastating the lawn. If you start to see brown/yellowish patches on your lawn, coupled with birds showing an added interest and tearing up the lawn in the process – you may well have an infestation. But don’t panic! We are able to provide treatment to combat these pests and any restoration work needed as a consequence of such infestation.

How long have you been with Greensleeves?

Since 2008.

Tell us a little bit about what you do…

When we first started, Andrew and I (Ruth) treated the lawns. As we expanded, I no longer treat lawns but concentrate on the office work and quoting.

Who else is on your team?

We have two full-time employees. Robin has been with us 7½ years and Gary just over a year.

Why did you choose to specialise in lawns?

Andrew had past experience and considerable knowledge of the amenity market. We were made redundant at the same time and decided this was a venture we could do together.

Which is your favourite season to work in?

Spring – new growth, new start to the year. Although it’s busy, I think it’s the most rewarding.

What do you like to listen to in your van?

Radio 2.

Which is your favourite service station?

Tesco.

What’s your favourite lunch item or post-work snack?

Smoked salmon and Philly, but sadly more likely to be cheese and pickle.
