What is dry lawn?

A dry lawn is a lawn that is not receiving enough water. This can be caused by a number of factors, including:

  • Insufficient watering
  • Periods of drought
  • Compacted soil
  • Thick thatch layer
  • Insect pests
  • Fungal diseases

How often should I water my lawn?

You should water your lawn at least once a week, however, the amount of water you need to water your lawn will vary depending on the type of grass you have, the climate you live in, and the amount of sunlight your lawn gets. But as a general rule, it’s best to water heavily to allow real penetration into the soil rather than ‘little and often’, which encourages shallow rooting and a weaker plant.

By following this advice, you help keep your lawn healthy and prevent it from drying out between treatments.

What if there is a hosepipe ban?

To address hosepipe bans, we suggest the installation of a rainwater collection system, such as a water butt, in your garden. This allows you to gather rainwater during rainy seasons for future use during dry spells.

How do I treat a dry lawn?

If you have a dry lawn, our lawn care experts can help you with the following to improve the situation:

  • Aerate your lawn. Aerating your lawn will help to improve drainage and make it easier for water to reach the roots of the grass.
  • Remove the thatch layer. If you have a thick thatch layer, you can remove it by dethatching your lawn.
  • Douse your lawn in water at least once per week, especially in hot weather.
