Solving Your Lawn Care Problems

Chafer Grubs

Your most searched lawn problem by far has been for chafer grubs. So, what are they and how do you get rid of them?

Chafer grubs are the larvae of the chafer beetle that live in soil. They eat grass roots and cause yellow patches on your lawn as they kill it off.

If you have a chafer grub infestation and don’t treat it, your lawn can become seriously damaged, eventually turning brown as the roots die. These grubs also make a tasty meal for potential predators, that are most likely unwanted guests in your garden, such as foxes and badgers. Not only do they entice these animals into your garden, they also dig into your lawn to capture these grubs to eat, causing further long-lasting damage.

How Do I Treat Chafer Grubs?

You’ll need a professional insect control treatment to effectively kill off chafer grubs, called nematodes. We aim to apply this between July and October when the temperatures are higher and chafer grub infestations are at their peak.

You’ll start to notice the initial effects of the treatment in 3-7 days. To see full effects of the treatment, please allow 2-4 weeks after the treatment is applied.

How to Level a Lawn

Whilst we aren’t landscapers, we do know how to make a lawn level for that polished look.

If your lawn used to look even but over time has become bumpy and uneven, here’s how a bit of TLC can level things out.

Pooling water throughout the wettest months can lead to extra soggy areas of your garden, and eventually create dips in the grass. If water pooling is your problem, your lawn may be struggling to drain and require an aeration treatment to help drain the rain away naturally.

Animals and footfall over time can also lead to lawn bumps and dips.

If you have minimal lawn level issues, you may be able to bring it back to life with an additional sprinkling of grass seed. Simply give the patchy areas a bit of grass seed, water and gently pat down into the soil.

For deeper lawn dips, you’ll need to dig up the turf and either remove or add additional soil where required underneath to even the foundations out. For more information on how to do this, here’s our lawn leveling guide.

Lawn Weeds

Especially during lockdown, we’ve seen a surge in our customers looking for help with weeds. Gardening has been a solace for many while we are confined to our homes and gardens, so it’s no surprise that getting rid of weeds has been a top concern.

When you’ve worked so hard to achieve a uniform luscious green lawn, it’s upsetting to see a weed rear its ugly head. Weeds can easily be transferred to your lawn from elsewhere, from animals and even the bottom of your shoes when you’ve popped out for your daily exercise.

We’ve compiled list of the most common lawn weeds to help you identify what they are and how you can get rid of them.
